According to Anders Kaseorg, Linux Developer, has found a crack in kludge that used by windows driver with NDISWrapper. NDISWrapper not properly handle long ESSIDs (Extended Service Set ID) that cause rejection service. If it is in use a physically near-by attacker could generate specially crafted wireless network traffic and crash the system.
The bug was found in early October and has a fix. One of the Linux distributions, Ubuntu has issued a patch and repairing process on the bug problem is also being handled by other major Linux distributors.
This problem should disappear along with the number of Linux drivers for hardware that appears. Like NDISWrapper this is not very good but if the work could lead to system problems. This is because it works by loading a Windows driver for the hardware and as a bridge between Linux and the driver.
sooner another vendors get on the open-source device support likeĀ Antheros and Broadcom that has released Linux drivers for their hardware and open some of their code, then Linux will eliminate the problem, such as security problems in NDISWrapper.
